WELCOME TO THE NEW NORMAL

Posted by healthbook.pk

We have to accept the reality that our world is now exposed to this COVID-19 virus. No vaccines discovered yet that is specific to it. Clinical trials are ongoing, Governments of different countries have tried to expedite the processes just to make sure they can find a fast solution to control if not stop the virus from infecting the world population.

The following information can be considered by each and every one of us.

1. Let us be calm and accept to the fact that the COVID 19 will be with us for many years and may stay with us forever active or inactive in the future. We are expecting 2nd and 3rd waves and as the waves come, the virus could have mutated and become more potent than ever.

2. We need to enhance our respiratory hygiene practices. Inculcate in the minds of our young generation, the following:

a. Cover their mouth with tissue when coughing or sneezing.
b. Cough on bent elbows and not the bare hands to cover the mouth.
c. Hand wash more often and if not possible hand rub with alcohol
based hand sanitizer or whichever is accessible in your areas, so as to disinfect our hands.
d. Do not expose yourself to crowd especially if you have the symptoms. It is to protect you from compromising others and yourself contracting other illness during the process.

3. Modify lifestyle.
If you have been living with vices your whole life, like smoking and drinking alcohol, then think again. It has been proven that the population who have more co-morbidities or have underlying diseases are more susceptible and has more difficult chances of fighting off the COVID 19.

4. Avoid exposing our older generation to the crowd.
Thy have weaker immune systems and exposing them may jeopardize their health as a whole.

5. If you have no known COVID- 19 exposure at home then there is no need to disinfect always.
But cleaning is highly encouraged of course.

6. Be careful in handling cargo, shipments, parcels, etc. should be disinfected
since we do not know the extent of its exposure to people until it reaches you. Wash your hands, but live yourself like normal. Make it your routine practice to always do handwashing.

7. COVID -19 is not a food infection.
It is associated with drops of infection like the “flu”. There is no demonstrated risk that the COVID-19 is transmitted through food deliveries. However, you can microwave it if you need that peace of mind.

8. Once at home you don’t need to change clothes urgently and go shower.
Although it is encouraged for those working direct to patient care but not to ordinary non exposed population. Unless one has deliberately or accidentally exposed oneself from a known infected individual.

9. The use of soap is encouraged when handwashing,
it is not mandatory to have an antibacterial soap if not available. After all it is a virus not a bacteria.

10. Wear mask when going out in a crowd but may relax when just at home.
Wearing a mask for long periods of time may interfere with your breathing thus decrease oxygenation of the body. You can relax at home unless you have a known person with infection under investigation.

11. Wearing gloves is not encouraged.
Gloves are used when handling the sick people. Unnecessary use of gloves at malls and groceries is not advisable. Proper gloves disposal must be done as well. Be kind to mother earth!

12. You can go out to the parks for fresh air.<
Immunity is increased by exposure to pathogens. Practice social distancing at all times is needed to be practiced at all times.

13. Adapt to this new normal.
We don’t need to be paranoid from the doing our daily routines. We have to level up however or practices on respiratory hygiene, handwashing practices and social distancing and be mindful as these practices is now a part of our new normal.

14. 14. Our friendly reminder for everyone is to “Stay safe, stay healthy! “
